About
I’m Chris Lavelle, a Glasgow-born Senior Project Manager, community activist, football coach, and climate advocate. I deliver projects, coach people, and spend as much time as possible on a bicycle.
I write about Glasgow, sustainability, urbanism, and Scottish politics at Horizon Glasgow , blog rooted in the city I grew up in and still believe in.
Professional
I’m a Senior Project Manager at the University of Glasgow, where I lead projects across one of Scotland’s most complex institutions. These projects touch people, process, and technology in equal measure.
My professional approach is built on relationships, collaboration, and cooperation. My first professional role, started as a high school teacher. Since then, I’ve worked across multiple sectors, including an extended stint at global engineering consultancy Jacobs. At Jacobs, I received both the Global Sustainability Award and the UK Beyond Zero Safety Award, recognition I’m genuinely proud of.
Breadth is my superpower. I connect the right people, ideas, and tools to get things done. Project Management is the discipline that fits how I naturally work. I hold memberships with both PMI and APM.
Causes
I deeply value human connection and the fundamental power of community. Two organisations define that commitment in practice.
Glasgow Eco Trust; I chair this grassroots social enterprise in the west of Glasgow. Our work covers cycling, biodiversity, community growing, and climate action. In 2024 alone, our volunteers contributed over 18,000 hours to make Glasgow a greener, fairer place. That number still astonishes me.
Drumchapel Utd WFC;I coach at one of Scotland’s most inclusive community football clubs. It’s a community club built on a simple idea: sport belongs to everyone, regardless of background, ability, or circumstance.
Beyond these two, my values show up in how I live day to day. I’m a vegetarian, a committed cyclist, and a believer in the 15-minute neighbourhood , the idea that everything you need to live well should be reachable without a car.
Speaking
In 2019, I spoke at TEDx University of Strathclyde on data, connections, and social mobility. These are three things I believe are inseparable when it comes to building a fairer Scotland.
